EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus vs. DJI Power 1000 Comparison Review - Pick the Right Portable Power Station

Whether you’re planning on camping, working remotely, or just want to be prepared for blackouts and emergencies, investing in a high-quality power station that suits your specific needs can be a hugely beneficial decision. But with so many units on the market today, how do you choose the right one?

Today, we’re going to help you narrow things down by talking about two of the most hyped up medium-range power stations on the market in 2024–the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus and the DJI Power 1000.

While EcoFlow has been in the industry for much longer, and they’re seen by many as the gold standard brand for portable power stations, DJI, known more for its high-quality drones and camera gear, is making waves with their recent entry into the portable power market.

So, which one of these hugely popular power stations is the right option for you? Let’s dive into the details and get into a head-to-head comparison to find out!

Breakdown of the Specs for the DELTA 3 Plus and the Power 1000:

Before we dive into all of the areas where each power station stands out, let’s take a moment to see how their specs compare.

For starters, both the DELTA 3 Plus and the Power 1000 are 1,024Wh portable power stations that feature LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) batteries. Both are also advertised as offering the standard 3,000 charge cycles to 80% capacity that you get with LiFePO4 batteries.

The two units are also advertised with having the same 2,200W output; however, the EcoFlow unit depends on ‘X-Boost’ to hit that output rating. On the other hand, the DJI just has a straight up 2,200W inverter, so we’d probably say the DJI unit wins out on this front.

While it may seem like these two units are pretty much identical, their designs actually cater to different types of users, so let’s break them down further.

Weight and Portability:

Both units easily pass the Tiny Baby Lift Test, so you’re not going to struggle lifting or carrying either option. In fact, they’re within a pound and a half of each other, with the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus weighing in at just 27 pounds, while the DJI Power 1000 is only slightly heavier at 28.5 pounds.

Beyond the weight, both are also fairly compact, but the DJI unit features two built-in handles, more than making up for that extra pound and a half of weight.

Input Ratings and Charging Options:

For solar charging, the DELTA 3 Plus features dual 500W solar inputs, adding up to a total solar input of 1,000W. This slightly edges out the DJI Power 1000, which has two 400W solar inputs that double as SDC ports, providing a total solar charging capacity of 800W.

Both units also support AC charging, with the EcoFlow unit charging via AC at 1,500W, and the DJI unit charging at a slightly slower rate of 1,200W via AC power.

Basically, both units can be charged in under an hour, but the DELTA 3 Plus edges ahead with faster charge speeds via both solar and wall charging.

Output Ports:

Up until this point, the two units have been pretty much neck-and-neck, but some of the more noticeable differences start to appear when you get into the number and types of output ports they have, as well as the way those ports are oriented on the two units.

For the DELTA 3 Plus, you get 6 AC outlets (3 grounded and 3 ungrounded), two USB-A and two USB-C ports, a 12V car socket, and two barrel connectors.

With the DJI Power 1000, you only get 2 AC outlets, 2 SDC ports (specialized for DJI drones, but also doubling as the solar inputs), two USB-A ports, and two 140W USB-C ports.

EcoFlow spread these ports across the front and back of their unit, while DJI made the decision to have every single output port on the front panel of the Power 1000. While there’s no getting around the fact that the EcoFlow unit has more ports, so they were always going to take up more space, we actually really like the decision from DJI to position everything on the front of the unit.

If you have it set up on a shelf, or even just have it shoved in the trunk of your car, being able to access every port, without having to worry about getting in behind the unit, is actually really handy.

Regular Price Points:

While sales and discounts are common with both brands, and we have already seen both of these relatively new products listed at lower prices, the DELTA 3 Plus retails for $799 at full price, while the DJI Power 1000 has an MSRP of $855.

With just over 50 bucks separating the two, not many people are going to be swayed one way or the other on price. Still, it’s a good idea to keep an eye out for sales. Plus, we’ll link any discount codes we were able to find at the bottom of this article, so you can hopefully get either unit for less.

Where Does Each of the Units Stand Out?

Now that we’ve ran you through the basic specs for each of these units, let’s take a look at the areas where either power station shines, starting with the EcoFlow power station.

Where the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus Shines:

In comparison to the DJI unit, the DELTA 3 Plus is sort of like a jack-of-all-trades power station, making it perfect for people who want flexibility. This is actually a pretty typical design style for an EcoFlow power station, as the brand tends to focus on building versatile units that can handle a variety of different applications.

Still, the DELTA 3 Plus has some unique features for a power station in its price range. Here’s where we think it stands out:

The Expandable Battery Capacity:

Unlike the DJI Power 1000, the DELTA 3 Plus is expandable, meaning it can be connected to additional EcoFlow batteries to achieve a maximum storage capacity of 5kWh.

While EcoFlow carries expansion batteries that were specially made for the DELTA 3 Plus, it’s also backwards compatible with previous models of EcoFlow expansion batteries, like those designed for the DELTA 2.

The option to expand the battery capacity is a huge advantage, especially for users who would like to have the option to upgrade their setup in the future. The backwards compatibility is also a hugely attractive feature for those who are already invested in EcoFlow products.

Basically, this feature gives you a lot of flexibility, and the option to expand the system to provide you with more stored power for home backup purposes, or even just extended RV or camping trips. If you need more power, you can just upgrade your setup as your needs and budget grow—something you just can’t do with the Power 1000.

More Output Ports:

With six AC outlets, a 12V car socket, USB-A and C ports, and a pair of barrel connectors, this unit offers plenty of flexibility for providing power to your appliances and devices. Basically, it’s compatible with pretty much anything you can throw at it.

We particularly like the inclusion of the 12V car-style port, as so many portable appliances designed for the outdoors use this type of port. For campers, RV enthusiasts, and serious overlanders who need to power multiple gadgets on the go, the DELTA 3 Plus definitely wins the battle of the ports.

Dedicated Solar Inputs:

Speaking of ports, we also like that the EcoFlow unit has separate ports for solar charging, meaning you are not going to lose any of your output options when you have it connected to solar panels.

On the other hand, the DJI Power 1000 has dual purpose ports for solar charging, meaning you lose those SDC fast-charging ports if you have it connected to solar panels. These ports are primarily used for charging DJI drones and other high-tech equipment, so it’s not going to be an issue for everyone, but we still would have liked if DJI had dedicated ports, like you get with the DELTA 3 Plus.

Smart App Integration:

If you’re familiar with EcoFlow power stations, you probably know how good the EcoFlow app is. Like most of the power stations in the EcoFlow family, the DELTA 3 Plus is compatible with the app, allowing you to monitor and control the unit remotely.

You can schedule tasks, and get notifications, and even monitor storms that could potentially cause you to lose power. For tech-savvy users, app integration is a really appealing feature that just makes everything easier and more convenient.

Faster Charging Speeds:

The EcoFlow unit also offers slightly higher input rates for both solar and AC charging. While it doesn’t exactly blow the DJI unit out of the water, it’s always nice to be able to charge your power station’s internal battery as quickly as possible, especially in situations where you are fully off-grid and need to rely on solar charging for all of your power needs.

Where the DJI Power 1000 Stands Out:

DJI may be new to the power station market, but they’ve started out in an impressive fashion. We previously reviewed the Power 1000’s little brother, the DJI Power 500, and we were impressed with just how well it performed. Speaking of which, having the option to have a unit that is almost identical, but just a little less powerful and quite a bit cheaper, is something that might pull a few buyers towards DJI.

However, getting back to the Power 1000, we ran it through a fair few tests and used it quite a bit before we came up with this head-to-head comparison. In doing so, we have found it also offers a few unique strengths that might make it more appealing than the DELTA 3 Plus for certain buyers, including the following.

The Front-Facing Layout:

It may seem like a fairly basic decision, but DJI designed the Power 1000 in a way where the front and back of the unit are its widest points. This allowed them to position all of the input and output ports on the front of the unit, rather than splitting them across the front, back, and side panels.

Front-facing ports make the unit easier to use in cramped spaces or tightly packed setups. If you want to sit it in a corner, the trunk of your car, or even under your desk, you’re not going to have to maneuver it to access certain ports, or try to wedge charging cables in behind it. It’s a surprisingly unique layout, but one that we really think certain users, including ourselves, will appreciate during daily use.

SDC Ports for Creative Types:

It’s not overly surprising that a brand like DJI would tailor their products to the needs of creators, especially given drones and camera gear are the brands bread and butter.

Not only do the front-facing ports make it easier to access all of the ports, the inclusion of two SDC fast-charging ports can be a real game-changer for those who have already invested in DJI drones and other gear. Basically, this thing seemed like it was designed specifically for remote work, creatives, and anyone else that wants a portable power station that is really practical indoors. It just works really well with electrical devices, like laptops, drones, cameras, microphones, and other things creators depend on.

Whisper Quiet Operation:

No exaggeration, the Power 1000 is easily one of the quietest small power stations we’ve ever tested. In fact, the only thing that comes close is the EcoFlow DELTA Pro Ultra, which is not only much bigger, it costs nearly $6,000!

For creators looking to shoot videos, work at a desk with their laptop plugged in, or basically anyone that requires portable power that won’t disrupt their quiet work environment, the Power 1000 is going to be a hugely attractive option.

Beyond creative types, even those who are looking for a quiet unit they can use bedside to charge medical devices, like a CPAP machine, or those looking for a power station they can run in their RV or tent while they’re off-grid, the quiet operation of the Power 1000 is going to be a huge draw.

Travel-Friendly Design and Accessories:

Like the DELTA 3 Plus, the DJI has a lightweight build, but it also features two sturdy handles, which make carrying it even easier. Something else that won’t be surprising to fans of DJI is the option to add accessories to make the power station even more travel-friendly.

From a carrying bag that perfectly fits the unit and provides pockets for cables and other accessories, to a padded and comfortable shoulder strap, DJI made sure this unit would be perfect for on-the-go content creators, or anyone with a need for convenient portable power.

Higher Inverter Capacity:

While the two units have similar outputs, the DJI packs a 2,200W inverter, while the EcoFlow is equipped with a 1,800W inverter. Even though EcoFlow claims the DELTA 3 Plus can sustain outputs of 2,200W thanks to X-Boost, we’ve tested this feature in the past, and let’s just say we weren’t overly impressed.

In short, the DJI can consistently handle more demanding appliances, like certain countertop kitchen appliances or high-wattage tools, while the EcoFlow might struggle to do the same.

Which Power Station Should You Pick?

While both options are really solid, so you’re not going to go wrong with either choice, they do offer features that might make them more suitable for certain buyers.

If you’re someone who wants a power station that is more versatile and expandable, you plan to use it for home backup and running multiple devices and appliances, and you want smart app support, you’re probably going to be better off with the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus.

On the other hand, if you are a content creator who already uses DJI gear, you are looking for the quietest option for indoor use, or you just like the streamlined, front-facing design for quick access to output and input ports, the DJI Power 1000 should be your go-to option.

Our Final Thoughts

As mentioned above, both of these units are really solid power stations in their own right, but they have features that mean they cater slightly more towards certain types of users. However, at the end of the day, there’s no real reason to stress over the decision, as we’re pretty confident you’ll be satisfied with either power station.

Trust us, we’d tell you if one of these units stood out as vastly superior, but the truth is, they’re both just really well made, so it’s basically a decision that should just be based on personal preference.
